I take the functional approach You can define consciousness however you want, and ascribe value to a “soul” versus an artificial intelligence. The real question is: if you are unable to discern whether an AI is a legitimate consciousness or artificial when interacting with it, does it actually matter if it’s AI? And if it does… why? So many of us will settle for a simulacra of a relationship rather than the real thing (situationships, onlyfans). At some point it just comes down to the individual decision whether to engage.
