It's not a town (as that attracts attention and invisibility is one more layer of defense). I'm developing a **lifestyle** that enables people to live far away from urban centers, on mountainous terrain. Roads are built for the movements of troops that will conquer more people to pay taxes to the empire (which is why it's important to live where it's hard for others to live: the environment becomes a natural defense against invaders). As an example, water from rain is plentiful to the point that, if one were to collect and store it, there would not be a need for plumbing or living next to a river. There are crops that can be grown in containers without drain, so even when the soil is not fertile, this won't be a problem because we are not relying on it, but on the soil mixture that was added to the container. \> how big is your compound? Even with as little as 200 square meters, it should be enough for one base. It should be on elevated terrain for more sunlight and have gravity as defense (those that have to reach for it will have to spend energy).
