 Boise Rock looks like just another giant boulder beside the road in Franconia Notch, until you hear the story behind it. I visited it a few times this summer. In the early 1800s, teamster Thomas Boise was caught in a brutal winter storm, killed and skinned his horse, then sheltered beneath the boulder wrapped in the hide until rescuers found him the next day.
