That is one of my virtual house project I have in mind.   Outside the city limit, the land price is cheap per sq. mi.   One can build multiple houses specially designed for each season, for not much money if built all together at the same time, with very high QA; high QA is very important, otherwise, the termites/molds can ruin the brand new house real easy.  
  
I believe if commissioning a house, the owner should be there to monitor, every day, at least half an hour or so.  
  
I believe in as little gimmicks as possible, as little mechanical/moving parts as possible. (even though I am contemplating retractable A-frame style roof over mid-century modern style flat roof, using some kind of counter weight combined with 'reliable' and 'durable' source of power such as solar/wind generator-based pump, synchronized with hydro dam type water storage, and releasing the water for the operation of the roof?)

For humid, hot summer, like NE, but can be windy often enough, with thunder storms, it would be very wide/deep overhang (mostly flat roof), but with a slight incline toward the middle of the house, for Roman style indoor rainwater pool.  
  
Gigantic ceiling fan providing extra ventilation.

The wall will be retractable bug screen doors/curtains, surrounded by movable security bar fences, electronic alarm/sound system, simulating gun fires, loud dog bark noise.   
  
For winter, cold, windy, dry, snowy, like NE, it would be thick thermal insulating wall.   The floor will be bamboo, as whitened as possible.    
  
For spring and fall, it will be all glass, heavily insulated, except the trombe wall, it will be openable in the windy direction, hermetically sealed in non-windy direction, and trombe wall in the sunny direction.  
  
Trombe wall will be blast resistant.     
  
Again, there will be movable security bar fences with the alarm.

I think your dakota pit, combined with Japanese inori/kamado combination would be what I have in mind, for primary cooking/heating/dehumidifier/humidifier, supplemented by radiant warming; I had thought about hydronic cooling as well, but it would interfere with natural cooling from convection, and it would create extra humidity when unwanted, plus more expense in building and maintaining: Now worth it.
