Also on meat birds you eat them young because they don’t get any bigger at some point the meat just starts getting harder and more gamey. So if you want fast meat they’re better but you’re paying for way more food. I would grow birds as a hobby but would eat them. I prefer gamey meat (I hunt) and if sustainability is what you’re after commercial chicken feed is going to be gone in systemic collapse. So you start living close to if that was already happening. That’s why I let my birds out. Nothing was going to take them out in one go. also with meat birds this is going to sound gross but it’s the best way I can explain it. It’s like eating an adult sized child with mutated and inbred genes. But when you eat regular chickens you’re eating healthy teens to young adults. Much healthier and if you do rotations you’re able to see which genetics you want to keep and what you’re going to eat. If the long term plan it to have sustainable food go the longer route you’ll get better results. Also look into rabbits. I friends that raise them for meat
