What about mold infestation underground? I believe that may be the reason why the Iranians eventually stopped using it to collect water using that method at that particular location. I had thought about using similar method for natural cooling, using trombe wall, but then I realized the cool air would have to travel through underground tunnel, collecting water/dust/bugs/mold whathave you.
