I think you’re right about being on the path to a depression unlike we’ve ever seen. And, yes, there are signs—anecdotal signs. That person must have been very desperate to steal like that but maybe they did so because the food bank is tax-exempt charity so the person stole thinking, “No big deal, they can get more gas. I need it more than they do and they’re not even paying for it.” We’re also in a cultural decline. There are no new movies, songs, pieces of art. Man’s ideas have run out and everything is being recycled—and not done well. It’s all trash that no one intentionally turns into treasure. I see that as an indicator that most people have lost hope. So they’re giving themselves over to doing what they know is wrong and the cycle continues. Bad decision after bad decision…easily manipulated. I too have worked at homeless shelters and food banks. Do you see a decline in donations? Here, there are too many people in line and not enough food to give. The shelves are getting empty and staying empty.

There has been a massive decline in donations over the last few months and where I volunteer its largely community driven and doesn't rely on federal subsidies so its not necessarily due to whatever has been cut federally. Anecdotally, I started volunteering there last year and it was averaging 50 customers a day and now we're averaging 80ish a day in a community of less than 15,000. Over 1,100 families are using the services so roughly 10% of the local population. From my perspective we're there guys.
