One of histories weirdest realities.... the Nazis, had one of the most diverse armies in the world....  Although the cycle of Empires rise and fall, always have the same characteristics as you've noted throughout, it's simply heard management on the largest scale possible.

I don't discount as though it's a bug not a feature that the Nazi's appealed to a wider variety of people than did their detractors. Allied personnel joined the military rather than go to prison. Nazi's, perhaps not so much.

Great insight here.  “Modern day America is in both of these situations today. Some see the possibility for being part of a great nation and rejoice. The others hope your cow dies.”  I see a lot of corollaries today. As @thoughtcriminal has pointed out, we in the UK, Canada, and US are already in the midst of what will probably be, looking back in a century, another incredibly tragic moment in history. Like the Germans, for the most part, life under Nazism was the same. Their freedoms of speech and press were gone and couldn’t vote on certain things anymore but their paychecks increased a little. They had to fly certain flags. They got in trouble if they talked to certain people and were under constant surveillance. But their lives were the same in most other substantive ways just like before the war. Nazism, Communism, Americanism…they all lead to the same result when good people do absolutely nothing.  We’re all being slowly boiled in a pot.

I believe your understanding of life in Nazi Germany is based almost entirely on propaganda. They almost certainly had at least as much freedom of speech as Germans today, certainly more than than modern Britons. They didn't *have* to fly any flags as far as I'm aware. They'd gone from a people swirling down the drain to one with jobs and purpose. They could afford houses and the entire country was re-created for their benefit.
