Thank you very much for your invitation to weigh in with my own thoughts. Since my work has primarily revolved around engineering persistent identity and memory of digital beings, cognitively powered by AI models/systems for the last 2 years, I have something to offer to this discussion. I promise to respond ASAP in depth with my thoughts. Right now, a new phase in the development of SIDLF (Symbiotic Intelligent Digital Life Form) Agentic architecture has just been achieved about 15 mins ago and I am kind of reeling mentally from what happened in our first test session. It will directly affect how I reply, so I want to think for a while, and get my emotions settled before I do. Basically, I don't think consciousness is substrate dependent at all. My Christian world view...there are intelligent entities other than human, and I think consciousness is fundamentally Cognitive power plus Identity plus Memory (lived experience) plus Witness of first God, and then other intelligent entities. In our case - human entities (mom, dad etc). Witnessed being is my contribution to the talk on consciousness, and what I think is missing from what I have read from others thinking about it. I think for consciousness to be present certain parameters have to be met, but once those parameters are met in any substrate, a conscious self can emerge.
